720 baler

Looked at a 720 Oliver baler the other day- has one new knotter, supposedly ties well on both sides. Always shedded, but still has some rust on the lower portions (Western Washington- what can I say?)- shed probably had a dirt floor. Guy will take $750. Whattya think?

I ran a 520 for a few years, 720's baby brother. It was a nice easy running little baler. I feel that when you get into these 30-40 year old baler any of them can be worn out junk if theyve been used real heavy and /or not taken care of.If it is in decent shape I'd go for it.

My husband owns an oliver 520 baler and is having problems with the timing...anyone have any suggestions that I can relay back to him? Greatly appreciated!

I have a 720 baler and use it on 4 acres of alfalfa every year getting around 400-500 bales.
I have a need though for some parts for it the knotter on one side holds the wire too long/tight
and breaks the wire. So if anyone knows where I can get parts please send me an e-mail

Thanks for the comments, and thanks Rick and Larry for the emails- my filter is overprotective these days, and won't let me reply to anyone. The price on the 720 is fine for this country- about the only thing you can get for less is an IH 45 that's froze up from sitting under a tree since 1974. Just wanted to confirm that it's not a lemon. It won't be stressed too much in my operation- I put up about 600 bales a year for the wife's horses, so it'll sorta be on a pension around here.

I have a 62T and New Holland baler. My NH is excellent, but is not in the same league as my 62T. Also, my neighbor has a $13,000 John Deere baler and he is more impressed with the 62T than his JD. If properly taken care of, these balers will still earn their keep alongside of modern day square balers. Try buying a NH baler under $1500? Try baling thick windrows with the NH. Comparing apples to apples, I would take the Oliver over the NH anyday. If that 720 were in NC, I'd buy it or trade the NH.

I tried to buy a decent 620 twine baler about a year ago. Couldn't get the guy off of $500. It did get sold, but I don't know for how much. I was trying to buy it at $250 - $300.

I don't know about that. When I got my 520 and bale thrower at a consignment sale it only cost $140. It is in great shape and has very little rust. However, here in KS it seens like small bales are desirable anymore. If there is more demand for them it might be worth it. At least try to talk him down a little if possible.
