I got the governor out of my 77 today hoping that the thrust bearing would be bad. Unfortunatly it is in good shape, the problem is that the thrust washer behind the gear is gone and the gear has rubbed into the bearing in the engine block causing it to undercut the back of the gear. My question is can I cut the back of the teeth off to where they are flush again then make a bronze washer to take up the space and act as a thrust washer? I should wind up to be about .125-.170 thick. I do have a parts tractor that I could get the govermor off of but it is not in a real good place at this moment to get to. If I can get this one running to where I can move it around is what I need right now.

I appreciate any thoughts on this!

The gear doesn't transmit a lot of power so bushing it up should work ok.
