Did Oliver change the colour of their paint from the 1950's tractors to the later 1960's models? I have an 1800 checkerboard, and the paint is really close to JD Green (yes, I'm one of THEM), but some old 66 parts appear to be much darker. Looking at pictures on the oliver gang website, the later ones appear to be a lighter shade. I bought some off brand JD green paint, (Serif, from TSC) and it was too dark for Deere Equipment, but yet it matches the Oliver 1800 perfectly. Any Info is greatly appreciated.

The outside sheetmetal on my Super 55 appeared dark. It had been repainted, and I don't think the person who painted it was into restoration. However, when I purchased paint for my Oliver from "Agco I thought it was too light and looked like Deere green, (nope I 'm not one of those). When I had the tires removed to fix and paint the rims the inside looked light. I am assuming the paint may have darkened over the years on the outside. Seems like it should fade.

From my experience some paints will fade dark, and others will fade light. Early Deere Green goes ligher, and later Deere Green goes darker, so I'm just wondering what Oliver does. I looked at the paint at TSC for oliver, and it appears to be the really dark green that alot of Hart Par and 60's seem to be painted, but I don't know what they were originally. As long as we don't paint the wheels yellow, I think this off-JD is a pretty good match. Thanks.

I painted my 1655 using JD green. Painted one fender then compared with the other unpainted one and couldn't tell the difference. Good thing was all the boys standing around joined in and agreed--none of us could tell the difference. Course now they all tell me I have a Joliver.
