How to check hyd oil in Oliver 1950 with Detroit

How do you check the hyd oil in this tractor and the rear end and the transmission and does the power steering use the same hyd oil? This tractor is 4 wheel drive and has a detroit engine in it. Was this factory or was it converted? Was these good tractors? This one runs good and a friend of mine has it and he is letting me try it out for the 4 wheel drive. Thanks

These tractors totally rot. Stay away from it. Where did you say it was? :-) Love that two stroke music. Lots of torque: top to bottom.

Look under the seat - there's a combination breather cap/dipstick for the hydraulics. Use regular hydraulic fluid (Hytran or similar).

Power steering is not the most powerful on these tractors - if the fronts are in a rut or something, the tractor may be moving in order to steer. Also if the hydramotor unit (bottom end of the steering column) is failing, the PS will be weak or may not work at all.

The 4-53 Detroit is a good motor if you use it right. Works best when it's wound up all the way - it's not the best when lugged down. Also the 4-53 powered 1950 (along with it's 3-71 powered cousin the 99GM...) is probably the noisest tractor ever built. Use hearing protection is HIGHLY recommeded!!

there is a dip stick below seat for hyd. and a low and high plug on right side of pto ,3\8 in size, for rear end. hope this helps,let me now how it goes, these are loud tractors, i have one my self 1950 fwa with terra tires hope to get it restored soon to run it in some snow !!! john

This was factory and you need to educate yourself a little before running one of those GM motors so that it's properly done.If your not real interested after using it a while give me a jingle on your e-mail,I've been looking for one of these.
