Fender Tanks

I have driven by a Oliver with fender tanks several times. It is sitting in the weeds behind a barn. I know it is not a 55 series Oliver, there are no headlights in the front. My question is what Models came with the fender tanks? I would love to get another 4 number series Oliver some day, I grew up on a farm and we had a 1600 and 1755. I just drove by this tractor in the weeds again last weekend, some day I may stop and inquire about it. For now it's just a dream.

A lot of people think the fender tanks started on the 1750 on up, but I have a Cockshutt catalog with a 1650 on the front cover with them, so, theoretically, it's possible that even a 1550 could have them.

Dsl's Quick Checkerboard Identity At a Glance:

Tapered model placards on the side; 1600 Series B, 1800 Series B & C, 1900 Series B, 1550, 1650, 1750, 1850, 1950, 1950-T, 2050, & 2150.

No placards: 'A' Series 1600, 1800, & 1900. Single headlights makes it a 1600, dual headlights and single air cleaner make it an 1800, dual air cleaners and dual headlights makes it a 1900.

More on headlights in the fenders; generally, duals for 1750, 1800, 1850, 1900, 1950-T, 2050, & 2150, and singles for 1550, 1600, & 1650.

Look for dual side by side air cleaners; 1900B or 1950, two inline air cleaners; 1950-T, excepting very late models.

Heavy, low-slung tractor with a straight front axle(you didn't say FWA); 2050/2150.

Using the above references, you can closely identify an Oliver halfway across a field.

The fact that this is a fender tank tractor would rule out 1600, 1800, & 1900 for original equipment, but they could have been retro-fitted.

I drove by this Oliver again today, it has 2 lights on the fender tanks, and dual side by side air cleaners. I now think it has the big 4 cylinder engine, the engine seems to short-front to back, for a 6 cyl, and it sure hangs out of the left side of the tractor. So I am guessing it is a 1950. Where I grew up our neighbor had 2 of these 1950 with 4 cyinders, a 2 wheel drive and a 4 wheel drive. We could hear him a 1/2 mile away when he was doing field work with them. He said the 4 wheel drive would go over 30 MPH in road gear...

Thank you Dsl, I may be going for a little drive during lunch today, to see if it has 1 or 2 lights on these tanks and also to look at the air filters. I will keep a copy of your reponse for futures reference also. Thanks again.

Must have saw 10 neighbours in the next hour that would have taken them home!!! And I have no 4 didgets but hey "trade bait"!
