Tractor will not start. Replaced solenoid and rebuilt starter. Tractor will not start. The starter switch does not have electrical power going to the switch. Changed out switch. The starter switch still does not have power going to it. Used probe light to check hot wire at fuse and at switch. No power. Tractor will start and run when cross connecting starter solenoid. Why am I not getting power to the starter switch?

I am guessing that your tractor has a 4-53 Det. On some of the bigger units having am MT 40 starter there is a double solenoind. The key or button activates a ford type of solenoid which trips the big solenoid on the starter. Electricity is a chain and all of the "links" have to be operational or connected.

Take it this is a deisel? Sounds like there just isn't current getting from the starter to the switch. First try the probe on the starter where the hot wire attatches to the seleniod. Then try the other end of that wire. If there is current when on the starter but not when you go to the other end of the wire it is either fried, or internally broken and could possibly short(or did). Replace that wire and that should be the fix.

Thanks for you reply. I ran the wire from "S" connection on the starter soleniod to the battery side of the starter switch without any success. Looking at the soleniod, the battery cable is connected to the top post. The ground wire is connected to the bottom post. One wire is connected to the "S" post. The wiring diagram that I have has a wire from the soleniod that runs through a safety switch to the soleniod side of the starter switch. From the safety switch (which is located facing the dash on the right side under the battery pan mounted on the inside frame)the wire goes to the fuse then to the battery side of the starter switch. I don't know what the safety switch is for, could that be shorted out and could I by pass it.
Where is the voltage regulator located. Yes, it is a diesel. Appreciate your efforts.

The saftey switch is a neutral saftey and is supposed to keep it from starting in gear. You can try and bypass it to test the system, but please hook it back up afterwards. We don't want to loose any Oliver freinds.

Had a similar problem with my 1600. Turned out it was the battery cables that were bad. Was the last thing I would've ever thought of. Hope this helps. JLC
