I am in need of someone around the Des Moines, IA that loves Olivers and has a place to store one until I get my outbuilding built. I was at an Auction yesterday and saw one of the last Olivers to roll out of the Charles City plant sell.

It was a 1975 model 1855, 3700 hours, clean, well maintained (owner had all maintenance records and manual) demo tractor (it had the curved gear shifter like the early 2-105's had), done loader work, ran well, the 1-owner pushed a red button on the left side for about 20 seconds, turned the key and then she started right up in about 20 degree weather. You could tell he was following the "Cold Starting Instructions". Next to her were 2 Case's (2290 and 2294) that were bellowing black smoke, the Oliver was running smooth with real clear exaust, engine had almost no vibration, just a little oil leak from the oil pan seal. The guy that bought her said he had an 1850 and absolutely loved it, I hope he knows that he has to follow the recommended service manual to the T on the Waukasha. It sold for $6K, I would have went higher except for not having a way to haul it back and a place to store it in Des Moines. That was another long trip back home knowing that I should have bought her.

Yeah, I know the feeling when you pass up something you really want. About a year ago I passed up a 1300 hour, one-owner 880 gas. One of the cleanest tractors I have ever seen, even the paint looked like new. It was the farmers "big" tractor on an 80 acre farm! Oh well, it goes to some guy with the $3,000 in hand and then I can wait for a bigger tractor, like an 1850. Someone walked away with a nice tractor, but everyones day comes around someday.

I have a spot at Winterset but unfortunately it will have to set out side this time of year. My brother wants the other half of the barn to put his car in on the cold and snowy days.
