Looking to buy a gaser but dont want it if as bad as the diesel reputation. Anyone know if the 1855 gas (1972) has the same engien problems as the diesel. How rare is the gas? And does the 1855 have a wet clutch? Any differences between gas and diesel? THANKS!

Well, it smoked like a diesel and wouldn't stay running. Got away from there quick. Sure looked good just siten their though. Thanks for the input.

No dub, the gas Waukesha engines were not nearly as prone to engine failure as the Diesel engines were. In fact I think the gas 310ci engines were a decent engine from what I have heard. I don't think there were as many gas 1855's as there were diesels, but I dont know that you can tell by the production numbers, I dont see many gas 1855's around that is why I say that.

What are you talking about a "wet clutch"??? Are you talking about a hydraulic engauging clutch?? If so the answer is no, it has a manuel engauging clutch.

What are you looking to pay for that tractor??

The man wants 5500 & said it has less than 4000 hrs. Going to look at it tomorrow. A wet clutch is one that runs in oil bath. I have a jd4030 w/wet clutch, they last & last, good for round baleing without a kicker.

OK, I was not sure what you were referring to on that wet clutch. Now that you have explained it, no it does not have a wet clutch, it is dry unless a seal starts leaking, and they tend to last pretty good, and are really not hard to replace. Sounds like a reasonable price for that tractor, maybe a little high depending on the condition.
