I have just started farming and I am needing a good size tractor to chop silage with. I am wondering what tractor you all would go with. I am thinking about the 2255. I have seen one for sale and it looks pretty decent. What would you all recommend for chopping silage. I will be chopping for two silos, so I will need to get it done pretty fast. My chopper goes up to 200HP. THANKS

I used my 1755 with a 2-row Fox 1000 harvestor. I have a 18' Gehl 970 and a Meyers' 16' er. Once the wagons start getting full I have to slow down a little, but it only takes a 1/2 hour to fill a wagon. My father and I plant Mycogen, and that stuff grows over the muffler on the tractor!! Just about any tractor above 85 HP can run a chopper, but the larger the better (most times)

I would go with the 2255. It is a great all around tractor. We have one with the 3208 Cat in it and it runs great. We use an old Gehl 1200 harvester. You really need a 3 row head if you want the engine to work at all. It is hard to keep it in the rows at 7mph on the hills. The 2255 has been a very dependable tractor for us, even with it being turned up to about 225Hp. THe 2255 is only rated at about 150 Hp according to the books, but their is way more potential. THe over/under is extremely handy when you get to the end of the row to slow down and speed back up without touching the throttle. Depending on how much you want to spend, you could get a decent White 2-180 for around $15,000. It is rated at 180Hp and a little more refined with the newer style cab. It is just a newer version of the 2255.
