When I installed a loader on my 1750 Oliver, I discovered a problem. When I place a very heavy load on the loader, the hydraulic system locks up rather than lifts. To get it to lift again, I need to engage and disenage the lift several times. While it is locked up, the system functions fine for the three point hitch and for the other ram so I know the pump is fine. I assume I have a pressure release valve or bypass valve malfunctioning. Any suggestions on where to start looking for the problem and advice on whether or not this is something an amature mechanic can repair will be appreciated. Thanks!

thank you for both of the suggestions will try the coupler first and then tackle the locking balls if the problem still persists. I dont recall it locking up on the lowering, only the lifting.

I assume you mean the couplers on the hoses coming from the pump heading towards the cylinders, not at the attachment point to the cylinder since I dont belive there is any mechanism at that point

The problem is in the hydraulic hose coupler or couplers that you have on the cylinder end of hoses. Factory couplers have a limiter in them that limits the movement of the coupler valves. Take the male coupler off of the hose and inspect for a limiting pin. If you shake the coupler, you should hear the limiter rattling. When the couplers are together, normally the valves (could be a ball) in both are tractor and hose ends are neutralized, with both open. When you are lowering a heavy load, it forces the oil through the return coupler at a high rate. At the same time the other end of the cylinder is demanding a large volume of fluid flowing against the male coupler. Without the limiter, the valve moves too far allowing the tractor coupler valve to close causing the lockup. Solution, purchase the proper couplers, If memory serves me correctly, the 8000 series Pioneer have limiters and 7000 do not. Been there done that, farmers always want to buy cheapest they can find.

Your tractor has locking balls that hold the hydrolic preasure in the remote lines so they don't sink down on you.My guess would be that one is sticking.They are located under the seat in the top of the hydrolic unit.There are four locking balls and springs and pistons and rod to release them all thease parts should be inspected and cleaned.With a IT.service manuel I would think anyone could do it.
