OUCH! The Vibration dampener on the front end of the crankshaft. Got a price from a Agco dealer in Maryland. $420.00. Whew dawgies. Could use some input on this. Any aftermarket or Perkins part sources that you'd care to share?

Part of what motivated me to buy an 1850 was the Archive info about them. I see you put a Cummins in yours. My 1850 has 3200 hrs. on the clock. It has plenty of oil pressure at all ranges on the tach. I'm keepin my fingers crossed that it ain't the crank. No real oil on the block that would show a bad seal caused by a wobbly crank.

So, what about using a used balancer? What killed your 354? Seems to me I read that you had a cracked block. Did it freeze? The 354 is in all kinds of equipment. I think AGCO is getting a bit gready on the price, and they don't have a corner on the Perkins market as far as I can tell.

Let me know what condition yours is in. You aren't far from our place. We're down in southside of Va. some south of you folks.

A used pully balencer is fine as long as it was not damaged in removal.I have seen people do terrable things to get them off and tear them up.There is a place in virgina east of Kilmarnac that sells perkins engines and parts.They seem to be able to get anything,includeing bellhouseings and flywheels to do conversions.Unfortuneatly I don't have their phone number.

I agree with what the archives say, I think the 1850 diesel was one of the best tractors that Oliver made, but any of them can give you trouble.
I bought my 1850 Cummins with a busted Perkins engine and I bought some parts for it and tried to fix the Perkins but it was too far gone. The crack in the block came from a large washer. The nut and washer backed off the cam timing gear and fell into the oil pan. The tractor came out of time internally and really messed up the valves and pistons. Someone before me opened the front cover and put a new bolt in the cam shaft but didnt bother to find the nut or the washer, didnt fix the head or pistons and kept running it. Well the washer somehow got caught beween the crankshaft and the side of the block and it locked the engine up, breaking the side of the block and cracking the crankshaft in two places. I have never seen anything like that, and didnt know any of it till I bought the tractor.

I had planned on fixing the block and bought a crank to fit it, but we couldnt get the block fixed and decided to use a Cummins instead, so I still have a crankshaft for you engine too if you need one.

I really dont know about using a used balancer, my tractor was running when it died and the balancer appeared to be doing its job. I need to check it out tomorrow when I am in the shop and see if it is any good and what condition it is in. I will try to take some pictures to send you if you send me you email address and we can go from there.

Shep how much are you thinking that you want for the 1850 crank, and what condition is it in. Have a crank that the end of got worn causes the balancer and pulley on it to tend to come loss.

Doug, it is a used but freshly reground 354 Perkins crank, 10 on the mains 10 on the rods, I have never put it in anything, it is standing in my shop and coated so its not rusty or anything, it is ready to put in. I will sell it to you for what I have in it, I paid $700 for it two years ago, and I will sell it for that plus shipping if you want it. I would imagine I will have to ship it by common carrier as UPS would probably break it, or if your close enough you can come by and get it. Let me know if you are interested, I was just kinda hangin on to it in case I found another 1850 that I could use it on, but I will be glad to sell it to you.
