Oliver Super 99 vs. Massey 98

Whats the difference in the Super 99 and the Massey 98.How come oliver didn't produce them under Oliver S99. Then their would be more Super 99's out there.They came from the same manufacture.Its seems as thou the Massey 98 is worth more than the oliver S99.Did either of these tractors come with 3pt. hyd. or pto.

i don't care if you remove all the sheetmetal so you can"t tell them apart, they sure are a thrill to listen to when pulling hard.

I've been told that the Super 99 was built for only two years 55-57???.When was the massey 98 built.Why for only a short time? I've never seen one in real life but I hear that they are real monsters.

The Massey 98 is actually the equal to the Oliver 990 not the Super 99. The Massey is more rare just because there werent that many built. The reason Oliver built them was because the Massey production facilities suffered a fire and couldnt produce tractors at full rate, and made a deal with oliver to build the 98 with different sheetmetal. If you look at some of the 98 Massey tractors on the right side of the transmission you will find something about part of this tractor being manufactured by Minne Moline. I saw this on one a couple of years ago which came out of the north country.

You must be thinking of a Massey 95, Super 95, or 97. They were made by MM and Massey changed the grill and sheet metal.

The stories that I have heard talked about MF being impressed with the Super 99 Oliver, and not having a comparable large size tractor to sell against it. They placed an order with Oliver for 500 of the MF 98 tractor, and I believe that just a few under the 500 were actually delivered, maybe something like 490 something. I also think that the 98 was actually the same as the Oliver 990 by the time the production run started, rather than the Super 99. As there were not nearly as many of the MF tractors built, they are now worth more. Not all that much if you have watched any Super 99 or 990s sell lately. I believe that about the only difference was the paint, grill, and maybe the seat. Someone can correct me if I am wrong. Terry.

There were 500 ordered and only 398 were actually made. The reason the Massey 98's are worth more is due to the lower production number. I'm sure before long there will be people putting together "fake" 98's to make a buck.

You state that "only 398 were actually made" as if it's fact. I sure would like know where you get the number 398? Can you support that statement? Do have anything to back that up? Documentation? I'm not trying to pick on you but there are several numbers being tossed around I would like to know what is true. So far all I ever get is so-and-so told me that and he knows a lot about them. Thanks.

I can't remember which books, but if I recall correctly there were a couple of books that state 398 as the number. I'll look around again and see if I can find it.

Massy bought them from oliver because they wanted to sell a bigger tractor.Since massy sold less of them they are rarer and more valueable.They had both hydrolic and ptos as options,most pullers take them off.
