I'm not sure, I was either reading or talking to someone about a cummins in an 1850. I think that I read that cummins joined with oliver and the cummins was a motor you could get as a repower. Does anyone konw anything about that? The thing is we are going to build an 1850 to pull and we were wanting to put a 5.9 in it after looking at some of Shep's tractors with the cummins repower. The problem is alot of places that we pull we have to have an engine that was available for that tractor at that time. So if cummins was a motor that you could get as a repower we would have to be able to prove it so we would be allowed to pull. Thanks,

No, the 5.9L Cummins is not a factory replacement for the 354ci Perkins, so you will not be able to pull that engine. You can put a later model 354 Perkins in it though or rebuld and turn the one you have up to pull. Be careful of the valve cover gasket if you turn the engine up, it tends to get hot from the exhaust and leak bad when turned up.

I am in the same boat! We love to pull our farm tractors, but they must have and original engine or factory replacement in order to pull. So..... the 5.9 is out or we don't pull that tractor. I seen something along the same lines too as being a factory replacement, but I doubt if it is. That's all right though because that 354 Perkins will run quite well too with an easy 200Hp.

Hey m kuhns you would'nt want to share any tips on how to get 200hp. out of an 1850 would you? I'd love to do that with one of ours, most of all I'd just like to see an Oliver hold it's own at the local pull, it seems like mostly J.D. and I.H. the last few years.

I just emailed Terry in the previous post last night he wanted the same info. Email me if you want the same email. Here are the basics. Get a 5.9 Cummins turbo with the small exhaust housing and wasegate. Use the wastegate if you are not going to pull the tractor all the time, but otherwise plug the hose shut. You wil get about 15psi of boost with the wastegate working and about 25-30 with the hose plugged. Next get a larger head put in your injection pump. I think the 9mm is stock, but go one size larger which is hte 10 mm head with the fuel turned up all the way. This will give you enough fuel for 200 Hp. I made an exhaust setup for the turbo out of the pipe diameter coming out of the exhaust manifold and hung the turbo over the valve cover. We did absolutely nothing else to the engine other than these two things. I know you could more than easily get 250 to 300Hp with a larger head in the injection pump. The 1850 never even smoked while in under load and burnt all the fuel. Everything fits in under the hoods. THe exhaust got moved back 2 inches and we had to cut about 8 inches off of the fuel tank to make room for the turbo.
