Oliver stationary engine

My brother was helping a friend of his with the cows , when he spotted an Oliver engine with a belt pully on the back end of it. He says it has side covers , dash , etc.. He says the engine looks just like the one in his "88". But is not shure if it is the same engine as "77" or "88". My brothers friend says it use to run good , but hasn't been run in years. Someone offered his grandfather $100.00 for the unit years ago , but never come back for it. Mean while the grandfather died. The unit still sets in the back of the barn. My brother is going to see if he can stil buy it for the $100.00. Does anyone know anything about these power units? My brother said it was a generator. Then he said it had a big pully on the back of the engine. With out seeing it myself , this is all the information I have. Thanks , Scott Green

Look for a casting number on the side of the block. You should find a K100 or M100 number. If it's a K, it's an 88 engine. If it's an M, then it's a 77. Is the grill perfectly flat or is it rounded. If it's flat, it will be a Super series power unit. I have a Super 166 power unit and my dad has the rest of them up through the 225 size. I have all the books on the power units if you get it bought and need some help with it.

There were several Oliver power units around here that ran irrigation pumps. I haven't seen any for years, but I think they had 177 and 188 power units that had a clutch housing on the back
