1650 Loader

Maybe I asked too many questions in my previous post.

My main concern is to speed up my loader and get a little more power out of it.

I have a 1965 model 1650 D, with a Koyker 210 loader with 2.500 cylinders. When I have a 6' bucket with 14 cubic feet in it, it's very difficult to break out. Koyker told me the loader was designed for and rated for 2500 psi and My Ollie only has 2000#. I have a 2 spool valve with float hooked to the Power Beyond port.

My options are to install a 21 gpm PTO driven pump, or a 21 gpm belt driven pump off the engine.
What flow does a normal loader require for decent action?

Can I continue to use other PTO items while leaving the PTO pump on (Is there another shaft sticking out of it?)

If I go with a belt driven pump, how well will the twin A section belts hold up driving a hyd. pump. We have this set up for some of our hydraulic cranes at work and they seem to do okay.

I have a PTO driven hydraulic pump that I am using to run a Bush Hog loader on my Oliver 1555 . My problem with the loader on the 1555 was both volume of hydraulic fluid and by pass pressure levels when I ran the loader off the tractor's hydraulics even if I used a power beyond set up . I went with a cast iron Prince pto pump that I think pumps appoximately 14 gallons per minute at 540 rpms . I have been very satified with how well it works the loader and how strong the loader is . I went with the 14 gpm pump instead of a 21 gpm because it was my understanding you either had to have a hydraulic fluid reservoir with at least as much capacity as the gpm on the pump or put some type of oil cooler in the circuit or the hydraulic fluid will overheat . I use a 15 gallon reservoir (14 gpm pump) that I mounted to the loader frame . A 21 gpm pump would require a 22 gallon reservoir or some type of oil cooler .

I do not use the pto on this tractor for anything . I use the 1555 mainly to move hay out of fields and to feed hay in the winter , to pull a John Blue nirogen applicator and to pull a pasture drag harrow and occassionally a small harrow and sometimes a Vermeer no till pasture drill on flat ground . I have heard (but have never seen it myself ) that you can take an old pto shaft and make a stub of it out the back of the pto pump to use the pto for other work . I have no idea how well the tractor would work , what you diesel consumption would be like or whether it would cause excessive wear on the pump .

On my 1555 , I think I had to get a pto shaft extension to use the pto pump because the pump would not fit on the pto shaft directly underneath the housing for the pto clutches . There was just not enough room there . I had to bring the pump out past the housing for the pto clutches and the only way to do that was a pto shaft extension . I think the 1650 has a similar housing for the pto clutches .

No, there are no dumb questions. I guess. My experience has been with pto pumps or direct drive pumps off the front of the crankshaft. I'm sure people use belts but I don't have any expereience outside of power steering pumps. Direct drive seems to me to be the way to go. Can you get a straight line shaft ahead of the crank pulley?....

No, there really doesn't seem to be enough room to go direct drive.

With a PTO mounted pump, I notice the hole goes all the way through the pump. Do they make extensions so you can use the pump while still using other PTO driven shafts?

I do not know about extensions that would go all the way through a PTO pump . You might look in the Shoup catalog or try some place like Tractor Supply which has a number of PTO parts like over running couplers etc . I have heard about but not seen taking an old Oliver pto shaft and cutting the fat , back end off and then sticking the stub into the open part of the hole in the pto pump so that you can run other impliments off the pto . If it is a reversible pto shaft you would have to make the stub out of the 1/2 of the pto shaft that is the same as your pto pump speed(540 or 1000) .
