1850 transmission

What would a 1850 gas over all condition seems to be good. Engine sounds strong. PTO after engaging doesn't want to completely stop.Transmission when cold doesn't work in all gears makes a little whining noise at first.After tractor warms up all the gears work.What would a tractor like this be worth.What would it cost to fix the tractor.PTO a guy said around 600.00 what about the transmission.

I just went through my 1550 PTO, bearings, seals,
clutch plates, spline gear, springs etc. Luckily, I was able to get a used gear for $300.00. All total: $720.00 but it works like a charm and no leaks (knock on my head).

Well it sounds like someone put 140w gear oil in the rear instead of 80/90w.This would explain the stiff trans and the pto gets the same oil pumped to it.The thick oil will cause more drag in the pto disc.There is some adjusting that can be done to help the turning pto.

The pto could be out of adjustment, or there is an abrasive disk attached to a metal plate in the pto housing, if the abrasive breaks loose of the metal plate, it won't make a good brake, and your pto will coast if not under load
