I put a loader on a MM G1355 and I am having trouble with achieving a nice let down of the loader. I have adjusted the external restriction valve as indicated in factory Oliver 1955 service manual. If I slow it clear down I can achieve a nice let down of a heavy load without the chug-a-lug motion, however drop rate is extemely slow. The minute I open the restrictor valve is achieve a faster drop rate I get the chug-a-lug action when I try to feather the lever so to speak. I have removed the external flow control and load check, interlock piston to examine for wear. I do not see anything to warrant alarm. I even tried an external flow control in lift hose and also a weaker spring on this side load check. Is this the way these valves tend to work or is mine worn out somewhere. I have tried hooking to another tractor with the same system and it performs the same.

This is the nature of that style of valving for the Oliver Tractors and the way that I have seen to get around this is to mount an after market external valve on the fender or anywhere that is is easily used and mount this vavle set up to run the loader for a very smooth action raising and lowering. These valves have a feathering slot built into them that gives them the smooth action that you need.

Thanks for the info. I thought that this was probably the case. How come they never purchased better valve, looks like they would have learned they needed one. I asked my dealer what a new remote cost only a mere $900, who would give that knowing that they do not have good feathering capability. I can buy an aftermarket closed center stack of three for a lot less. Any recogmendations for specific brand or model.

Yes a good aftermarket closed center valve with two levers is enough to do the job and make your loader operate as smoothly as you can ever ask. As far a what brand ask your local dealer what he might recommend that way he will most likly be able to ger repair parts more quickly if the need should arise. Good Luck Shadetree

How about the differences in the two style of load checks and plungers (interlock piston). Mine has the larger ones, I would think that they might have an advantage, but maybe since the spool is not slotted for nice feathering it does not make much difference. Do you have an opinion which is better? I noticed that even in a 2-150 parts book they still use this valve.

It's ironic that we have not always learned or retained knowledge from the past. I happen to have just fought almost the same problem with a current model Case-IH tractor, heavy lift implement and try to slow drop speed and chatter... chatter to the ground. Electric coil is not strong enough to oppose returning oil. Installed an adjustable flow control with a short hose and another female coupler on lift port. You would think these engineers would know better by now. I heard that you can not run an MX on a loader without an additional Joystick valve, and I can believe it.

Are you noticing it more at an idle? On my 1955 and planter with a mounted soybean splitter, it will jump like you said even worse when all the boxes are full. If I rev it up a little it goes down smoothly. I think the hicup comes from not enough oil to replace what is going out of the cyl. Just an idea, WB.

My 1755 does the same thing with a heavy load in the bucket. I find the best way to remedy this, if possible, to use the bucket tilt instead of up and down. This only works for so many porposes, like lifting something I need to work on w/ a chain. Otherwise, I just have to settle for the chugging. Pretty soon I want to get rid of her and maybe put the loader on an 1850. Don

I think it must be the nature of these closed center remote valves. Who made them and what model number are they anyway. I agree with WB that you need engine speed to get more flow out of pump. I once thought maybe my priority valve was not working correctly but from all my testing it is working as book denotes. I think the trouble arises from high return oil pressure pressing against load check can not be overcome by interlock piston very easily. Therefore you get the chattering affect. But hopefully I am all wet, and it can be fixed, otherwize they make a miserable loader tractor for fine hyd control with a heavy load.
