Oliver 70 standard Motor problems

I have inherated a 70 which had a seized motor.Today I stripped the motor down to find the fault and found that one cylinder sleeve is badly rusted and pitted ,and there is cracks in the block between the cylinders. Can somebody tell me if this motor would be repairable or is it time to start looking for another motor. thanks

The 70 used an continental engine and it is ok if it is cracked between the cylinders on the top of the deck. You can do what is called pegging or lacing if you want to but in most instances it isn't really necessary to the life of the engine. If it is cracked between the cylinders in the bottom you would need to have it welded by someone who is in the block and head welding business, because it would need to be heated in an oven and welded with cast iron while it is kept hot and then let it cool down very slowly so that there is no stress built up in the casting. e-mail me if you need more info.

The motor in your 70 is likely a Continental, the motor in the 55, 66, 77 etc are Waukesha, not at all the same. The Waukesha's do have a bad habit of cracking if they are overheated. I am not sure about the Continental, that being said I wouldn't put it back together as is and I don't know of good way to fix it.

My Dad worked for a Oliver dealer in the 1960s He told me all Oliver 70 77 and some 88s have cracks between the cylinders. (It's a Oliver thing!)
It really dont hurt anything. You can put new sleves in them and they will be fine.
Use a good sealer when you put the head on.
