Oliver 1265 purchase

I'm looking at buying an Oliver 1265 and would like to know what everyones oppinion of this tractor is. It has a full hydraulic bucket and souunds good to me. I would like to know about common problms. It is a Fiat deisel model.

had considerable experience with a 1255 with loader.think it's just an older version of the 1265. it's been a very reliable tractor the fiat motor has never been touched.as a chore tractor the thing was everything you would want very fuel efficent enough power to pull a 6ft bush hog or run an auger.the one I'm familar with has had only the best care also you know check the oil once a month change it every other year or so ect. I think other than irregular service the tractor has had 1 clutch 1 set of brakes a startor rebuild and some small stuff. that said parts are hard to find the last I heard

Long ago had a new Oliver 1250, also a Fiat. Would not recommend it. We had engine problems within the first year and traded off for larger, U.S. Oliver.

Don't compare the 1250 to the 1265-no comparisan at all! Like the 1265, the 1250 was very nimble, and nice to drive, but from the transmission forward, the 1250-A was a near total re-design of the 1250, and a vast improvement in reliability in the engine and electrical departments. The 1255 was the same as the 1250-A, but just given a new model number to match the rest of the new 55 Series. The 1265 was given a bigger bore for more power.

The 1265 is one sturdy, peppy, long-life lil tractor, a delight to drive, and easy to service. Highly recommended. Just make sure the final drives didn't have water in them or the bearings could be bad.

The knock on the Fiat Olivers in the past has been parts availability- but now Dsl is "in the business" and should be able to help. His site is www.sphosting.com/dsl/index.html From posts I have seen, they are a fairly reliable tractor, and if the parts problem is solved, should be a good purchase.

There is a tremendous difference in the 50 series to the 65 series. We have a 1365 4wd with a 1510 loader has been used long and hard and still runs well. Don't have much experience with the 1265 but if it works as well as our 13 then I wouldn't be scared one bit. The 50 series is a different story altogether.

I agree with ol george. The 50 series were not as good as the 65 series. While many will disagree, from a chore standpoint, the 65's are amongst some of the most reliable Olivers ever built. They have been known to produce over 9000 hours with little maintenance. I like the 1265 and 1365 and believe you will be getting a good unit. However, if one is wore out it may be worth avoiding. I heard that it's a good idea to run one awhile before purchasing to see how engine acts once warmed up very good. Look for leks around head.
