I have a 880 diesel with fresh overhaul, the works including new gaskets, seals, etc. It seems to be leaking through the front crank shaft seal, through the pulley and throun by the front of the pulley. The line of splatters is between the front of the pulley and the radeater. It is messing up the paint and everything else that gets in the way. Any ideas as to cause and repair would be appreciated. jimg

front housing may have wore thin where seal rides repair by either getting better front timing cover or build up aluminum cover on inside or put thin washer behind seal to give more pressure against front cover. Somewhere I have seen post [here?] about using later 1650 front cover and seal but 880 would have to be a late rosa-master pump.

Check the front of the crank for wear from seal rubs. Measure the seal OD and the (nominal) crank OD, and see if NAPA has a sleve kit that slips over the crank to provide a fresh seal area. The seal has to change too as the sleeve will be larger diameter than the original crank.

Or, the crank is bent or the front crank cap is loose.

Sounds like the front crankshaft seal was not installed properly, and is leaking.
