1755- bound up again

My dad and I were hauling out manure just today, and when he was loading his spreader, our 1755 got in 2 gears again. I tried just wiggling it out which has worked in the past, but it didn't. I took out the shift lever, put it back in, and now I can get it so the bind isn't on the engine when I let the clutch out, but the wheels are still locked up. What the heck is happening inside? I managed to borrow a neighbor's JD for a loader, so I'm not totally screwed. Also- what is the difference in frame width form the 1755 to a 2-85? The local dealer has one and I may try talking my dad into trading the old girl in. Just getting too many headaches. A different, non-white dealer has an 1850 perkins in their yard. What's the frame difference from that to a 1755?
Thanks for any help
Don

Your shift lever is worn on the end, letting it engage another shift rail. You will have to reallign the rails, and add about 1/4" to your lever at the botton end. This should fix your problem.

A farm that I worked for had the same problem with a Whte 2-105

Seemed like it would go into two gears only when you shifted really fast...

Don: Mechanically, if everything is in place and working properly, the transmission is impossible to get into two gears at the same time. The transmission has a interlock gate that locks the unused shift rails in the "N" position. Either the gate is not in the transmission or it is out of position. If you remove the shift lever and shine a light down into the opening, you should see the interlock gate. The shift lever has to go through the center opening in the gate. As you lower the shift lever into position, just before the two side guides go into the casting for the lever, attempt to rotate the lever, if it is engaged in the gate, you will not be able to rotate the lever. If you can rotate the lever, the gate is either out of position or is not there.

Thanks Star. I printed off your email and this page and will look at her maybe next weekend when I got a little time. Sat. I'm renting a tractor and chisel plow to just work everything under in decent time. May just have my dad do that while I tera into the old girl. I should add that back in I think march the right fork broke and the dealer replaced it. They don't really like to back their work though. I may have to try the dealer on the other side of town next time. Only problem with them is they weren't originally Oliver/white dealers. I think they were Allis though.

Hi Don. The difference between the 1755 and 1850/2-85 is the Perkins engine. The 1755 is the 310 Waukesha. Also, the 1850 will have the open center hydraulic system. Rear end problems are always a headache, and like you said, maybe its time to let her go. Atleast your planning on staying in the "family":)
