here is the explanation from the manual plus if you go to the link there is a schematic . Power Booster OperationPower from the engine is transmitted through the engine clutch shaft to the Power-Booster Drive overcenter clutch. Whenever the drive control lever is in the rear under drive position, the over center clutch is disengaged and the engine power is transmitted through the clutch housing which is splined to the drive imput gear. The input gear, supported by a ball bearing and a needle bearing, drives the countershaft double gear. The countershaft double gear, supported on two needle bearings, drives the output gear. The output gear, mounted on the transmission input shaft with a one-way clutch, drives the transmission input shaft through the one-way clutch. The one way clutch consists of sprags and sprag retainers which allow the input shaft to be turned faster than the speed of the output gear, but no slower. Therefore when the drive control lever is in the rear underdrive position, the only source of power to the input shaft is the output gear and the input shaft travels a the output gear speed. Whenever the drive control lever is in the forward direct drive position, the overcenter clutch is engaged and the engine power is transmitted through the clutch discs which are splined to the input shaft of the transmission. The clutch housing and reduction gears also rotate, but the transmission input shaft is traveling faster than the speed of the output gear, so the one way clutch allows direct drive.
