Reading Shep's post below about his two 'prospective' purchases, (go for it, Shep!) I was curious how many of you have seen a 1750 Special. Anyone ever own one? I saw my first one in Nebraska about a year ago. Any idea how many Specials were produced during the 1750's production run? Interesting tractor and perhaps quite unusual...

i boutht one new in 1969, it had pressed steel wheels, no hydropower, a size smaller tire frount and rear, not telescopeing steering wheel but the wheels were painted white.

"Special" models. Oliver built the Specials as a reduced price tractor to gain additional sales. These tractors were built in the late 60s (1968 & 1969 I believe) The comidity prices were in a down turn at the time and the companies did this to make the tractors more affordable. The tractors did not have Hydra-Power or U/U aux. transmissions. Only one remote valve and pressed steel wheels. The wheels were painted a dull kind of light green instead of Clover White. I know that they were built in the 1750 & 1850 models, and I think that some 1650s were built as Specials. I'm sure that they did not build the 1950 Or 1950T in the Specials. Other companies had tractors of this kind at the time, Deere had the 3000 / 4000 tractors with like reduction in equipment.

I was just talking to a neighbor of mine which has a John Deere 4000. He told me exactly what BA Star just said. And that the John Deere 4000 was actually a John Deere 4020 stripped down.

I read on this board some time ago that the "specials" were stripped down low price tractors. As I reacll there was some discussion on which models were available.
