I was wanting to put a GM alt on my 66. I see the article here on the 55 changeover and think it must be about the same. I didn't think the gen I had was orig, the brackets looked "homemade in back and it was bolted to the timing cover on front with spacers and washers. In the above article he says there is a "mount" on front somewhere. Mine was just bolted to timing cover with longer bolt. He explains how to make a mount and I can see how to do that but have no orig to use as pattern like he mentions. Is there a mount for generator that I am missing? The rear one is just an angle strip bolted to side of block. Is that right? When I bolt the alt on as the gen was, it appears to limit it's travel toward engine to adjust belt. I could grind some on alt case, don't want to, and now that I see the bracket in article, I can see where that would raise the alt up some and allow more pivot. Anyone have an old bracket they would sell me? OR, anyone making the alt type bracket now?

The plate shown in the 55 upgrade is too shakey. I used a similar plate, measured distance to align the belts, drilled hole for alt bolt, bent the flat so it could be welded to the plate above the hole for the lower bolt hole. A spacer [hdware store] fitted between alt and plate makes the alt rock solid, both my 55's have it and the 66 uses the same motor. Don't have a scanner or would send diagram.
