Oliver 550 stay rods

Any ideas on how to tighten the ball and socket joints on the stay rods to the front axle of a 550? Would a piece of leather or neoprene (or aluminum/tin sheet metal) crammed around the ball and fitted/forced into the socket do any good? Or is there a way to build up the ball or socket parts?

Also, my right tire has always worn more on the outside of the tread, no matter how I adjust the toe-in. The bearings seem okay and the wheel rotates smoothly when jacked up. The whole wheel and tire assembly look to be slanted in at the bottom. Could a previous owner have replaced the front axle assembly with a different/incorrect one? In the parts book I see there were 3 different part numbers on each side for this item. Where is the part number usually located on the axle extension? I don't have my serial number handy right now, but it was built in mid-1962, has the metal front grill, and an Oliver Corporation, Charles City, Iowa tag.

I built mine up with weld on the ball.
The sockets didn't need anything, just the balls.
It was cheap and you can't tell I even did it.

Don't bother trying to build up the ball or cap, new caps are available from any dealer[cheaper by buying fron Mailbach or Korves. A set cost me $22.00 and makes the job right. The loose rods could have caused the tire wear, toe in should be 1/8. The ends on the front axel if correct will have grease zerks facing forwards.

Any dealer? Do you mean any Agco dealer or any dealer with access to aftermarket parts through TISCO or A & I, etc?

Any Agco dealer. White tractor handles Oliver parts however it,s going to cost more from them.
