I recently purchased an oliver 4 bottom pull-type plow that has a round beam for a frame. I remember when I was a kid that the national plowing contest was held here and that most of the contestants used one of these plows no matter what color of tractor they had. Does anyone know the model number of this plow? I have a part missing off the tail wheel. Would anyone have a parts book?

We have an Oliver 56 hillside plow (two-way)in our collection. It has a wooden frame with the typical two-way plow cast body. We suppose it is a "chilled" plow body. The turning mechanism is steel. We assume it is from the late 1800's but would like to get some more information. Anyone with ideas as to where to find that?

The model number of your plow is a 4440

What information lead you to that model number? Surely Oliver made more than one model of 4 bottom pull type plow.

I believe that is the only plow that oliver made with the tube frame.(4440)

BradM is correct for pull type plows. Number for semi mount round backbone plow was 5440. Oliver then White followed the same basic numbering system after leaving "plowmaster" plows. Fully mounted started with a "3", pull type with a "4", and semi-mounted with a "5". 4440 and 5440 were Olivers first "backbone" type plows as opposed to truss frame.
