Oliver 2050 Power steering problem

The power steering has become erattic and not dependable. Hydralic fluid is hot and some comes out the breather. Help

Check the three point to see if you have free travel with the three point lever in the raised positon. You should have around 1.5" of free travel when you lift up on the arms. If there is no free travel it will cause the oil to heat, because the pump is pumping against pressure all the time.

I think that only works if you have internal 3 point cylinders. The 2050 should have two large external cylinders that run the 6,000# lift and I dont think they have that upward travel like the other tractors do.

I do think however, that Lee has a point and the pump could be trying to raise the three point all the time, so just move the three point lever down a little or even let the arms drop a little and see if it makes any difference.

First thing to try is to change the filter under the seat. When the oil gets hot on my Olivers normally I need to change the filter and the fluid, and it cools right off. I would also guess that the fluid getting hot is the problem the steering is getting wild, because the oil is boiling. Also check your oil coolers out front and make sure they are good and clean with no oil and dirt clogging them up. If none of this works post back and we will go from there.
