Oliver 77 Diesel Info

Can anyone tell me about the 77 Diesel? I would like to know how dependable they are and there horsepower. Do they have 3 point or live PTO? Could I use one for small time haying and general utility? How are they with a loader?

I have a 1952 77 diesel. I have a 3pt, wide front and duals on it. It has been a very very good tractor. I use it hard. pulling 60' spring tooth drag "harrow". running in mud that stops most tractors with a 12' drill, mowing water ways and slughs what most seem to call bush hogging, pulling 3-14" plow and some times 3-16" running 24-7 in fall on corn drier at 80% to 90% load I have pulled a 6 row 30" 5100 planter loaded down with herb and dry fertlizer with it. latly it's been running continously on a grain auger. Tipicaly put close to 500 hrs a year on it. It takes the abuse and then some. I've had to replace the starter and generator, lights were a constant problem so I took the originals off and replaced them leaks oil at the injecton pump. Other than that no problems to speak of. runs cheap around a gal hr under moderat load pulls 42 to 44 hp on dino have gotten as much as 46 from it on a cool day. engine is all original. I beleve they were rated at 36 hp. Engine oil gets dirty fast I change around 20 to 50 hrs more often under heaver load. Smokes pretty black if you run it for all it has but other wise just that it's noticable. starts great. Hyd system works good for raising implements but over heats fast if used for a orbit motor. I think there is loaders available for them but you'd have to add to hyd oil capasity and with no power steering I don't know how much you'd like that. I HAVE A 77 DIESEL ROW CROP 1951 MODEL. I PULL AT TRACTOR PULLS RUNS STRONG STARTS EASY I,VE PUSHED MINE TO THE LIMIT OF A STOCK MOTOR AND NO BREAKS YET. FACTORY HORSEPOWER IS 37 OR 38 HP A SUPER 77 IS 45 HP. IF IT HAS HYDRULICS YOU CAN BUY A 3PT HITCH. HOPE THIS HELPS.

My cousin has a Super 77 Diesel. He raises sudan with it, 35 acres. In two years it has broken the crankshaft and we had to put new axle bearings in the left side. The crankshaft doesn't have enough main bearings I don't believe. It has a great live pto. No 3 point. The super 77 diesel is great for parades and shows but not for work is my opinion.
