One of my neighbors bought an Oliver "77" tractor from his father. This "77" has always been a good running tractor. Going by the serial number , the dealer told my neighbor that his "77" was a 1954. Although this "77" has the sheet metal and front tub of a "77" , it also has some "super 77" features. They are: bigger foot peddles , newer seat frame , disc brakes , and just below the engine distributor , is the square mounting block for the tachourmeter. Looks like this tractor is part "77" and part "super 77". Does this "77" have a "super 77" engine in it? What are some of the ways we can tell? Or is the mounting block for the tachourmeter the only clue. I've known this tractor for the past 30 years , but never paid attention to details. I just assumed it was a "77". I,VE GOT A 51 77 DIESEL WITH BAND BRAKES BUT IT HAS THE TECH DRIVE PLATE AT THE BLOCKED OFF DISTRUBTOR MOUNT.

Put it on a tach and find out how much horse it is putting out and then find what a regular 77 had and what a super had

I thank You all again for your replies. It must be a regular "77" tractor , like I assumed it was all these years. This tractor has made a lot of memories. It's the one that had gotten all of us in the area interested in Oliver in the first place. With all the work that tractor has done , it still runs like a top today. I'm happy to see his son putting it back up in top shape again.(under hood mmuffler , water pump , sheet metal strip on nose , seat bushings & tortion springs , paint , etc..

Scott, my '53 Oliver 66 has the larger brake pedals and the tach drive plate on the engine block. My '55 Super 77 has these same things. Jeff.

Scott, My 53 model 77 has disc brakes and the tack block. My wifes 55 super 77 is the same. It would seem that oliver upgraded as they went and did not wait for a style change to to make improvemnts. John

In 1952 Oliver changed their Fleetline tractors by putting on the newer "Super" style seat, disc brakes, I think they had the tach drive cover under the distributor, and brakes I don't know, I've never really payed any attention to the size of them. I could go out and check for differences on some of ours. With these changes, they still kept the full side curtains, and in '54 when the Supers came out they had the different side panels around the motor along with the increased horsepower of all the models. Serial plate still on it? Check the vin #. On MM's they sometimes used leftover parts or started new ones early on older models to get the change going. Maybe Oliver did same. If later model after 60 or so, White did that alot with parts on hand. Otherwise, maybe it's just a "Super" and they don't know it, just never got the decals on it to show that?

My two cents worth : I think some of the features found on the Supers were being designed, and tried out before production began on the Supers. My 1954 66RC has disc brakes, and I think they had been made available for awhile by then. I am not sure about the tach block. I have to go check my 66 to see if it has that too.
