I wouldn't think a diesel could get hot enough in 2 minutes to push any water anywhere unless you were blowing compression into the cooling system. If you replaced the head gasket I am guessing you had a blown head gasket at some point. If it got hot at some point you could have a warped head. Have it planned and pressure tested or magna fluxed. You will get mixed opinions on the head welding but, when I was a kid about 30 years ago remember my dad coming in the house with an arm full of insulation. He opened the stove and removed and 88 diesel head and took it outside and welded the crack. Peened it a little. Welded a little with nickel rod. Peened it some more and so fourth. Told the owner to have it planed off and it never had another problem. This may be the exception. You probably know this but, I'm bored and feel like typing. When I tork a head I clean all threads, oil them and pull them down to 75 percent, then 90 percent then the actual spec. Then I back them off 1/4 turn and go back to spec, they usuall go well past the 1/4 point. After the engine has been ran and cooled several time I retork for the last time.
