440 carb, starter questions

According to the serial # I have a 1961 Oliver 440. It still has original ignition parts-(wires,points etc) and runs ok, but it has sort of a "cough" at higher rpms. I did a check of cylinder compression and all seem pretty balanced so I don't think it is valve related. I'm suspecting carb problems. I took the carb off when I got the tractor-(hadn't been run in 4/5 years), disassembled & cleaned it up and made a new gasket for the bowl. When it runs at higher rpms the large carb adjustment screw only slightly changes the running but won't get rid of the "cough" Does this sound like carb related issue? I could have accidentally messed up the float setting and its getting too much gas I suppose,but I don't have any manual or specs to get it set right. Does anyone have these specs for the carb or any tune up specs? I was thinking of replacing the carb with either a new or rebuilt one but I can't find any #s for the model, only the name "marvel-schebler". Does anyone know what #-(like tsx???)goes on this model tractor so I can match up a replacement if I went that way? Also what kind of fluids go in the rear end and hydralics? One more thing, when I try to start this tractor from cold,it acts like a low battery and cranks slow. When I choke it, it slows down even further until a few turn overs and the gas is cleared out. After it starts and runs for any length of time and I go to restart it, it spins over like no ones business. Why? It has a new fully charged 6-volt battery! Could this be a starter problem? The 440 tractor had a TSX-665 carb from the factory. The transmission, differential & final drive housings, from the operators manual: " Use SAE 10W-30 engine oil for year round operation where the temperatures normally remain above zero degrees Fahrenheit. In clinates where temperatures fall below zero degrees, use SAE 5W-20 for year round operation."

Good idea to replace throttle shaft when rebuilding those carbs, but you will have to order as small Massey tractor. The seals wont work, so you will need the standard 440 kit. Korves or Rick's agri parts can get those carb kits. Those starters seem to spin faster with larger battery cables.
