I'm trying to find out what year my 1600 is. The plate with the serial number that is right above the wheel tilt pedal is so worn that there is no number left on it. Is there any other place where I can find the serial number? Thanks!

You can get an idea of the year made by getting under it and looking at the dates cast into the frame and the transmission/rear.The dates are aranged like this day/month/year.The castings may have set around awhile before being assembled, but they should be close.

To my knowledge that is the only place to get the serial number on the tractor, unless you have the operators manuel and it is written in there. The numbers on that plate should be stamped, so even if it is worn you should still be able to take a piece of paper and a lead pencil and scratch out the numbers over the plate. I have seen lots of them painted over or worn from people tilting the steering wheel, but most of the time you can make out the stamped numbers. What caused the excessive wear on that plate??? Do you know??? You make have to take it off and examine the plate closer to see if you can find the serial number.

The excessive wear has been caused by many years of excessive use. The tractor is used almost daily for many small chores which require a lot of getting on and off the tractor. Thanks for the info!

That still seems odd to me that getting on and off the tractor, even lots of times would wear the serial plate. Maybe someone always put their foot on it or something as they were riding. That serial plate should be on the lower instrument panel near the foot petal to tilt the steering wheel. Normally that is an out of the way place where it doesnt get much wear, but who knows.... Sorry I couldnt help you much.
