I'm in the process of restoring a oliver 880 and was wondering on the tractors which came with a 3pt, where was the tool box mounted? From pictures I have seen, it is not under the seat for obvious reasons since the 3pt is in the way. Was the step style toolbox then installed? My other question pertains to the hood. Mine has a hole for the powersteering dipstick, yet this tractor has no powersteering. From the looks of it, I have no reason to doubt that this is the original hood from the comperable rust on all of the other sheetmetal. Was there a time when a univeral hood was installed or is it just luck(or misfortune) that this is the wrong hood which matches the rest of the tractor. Thanks for your help.

Eric

Tractors with three point hitches had tool boxes that bolted to the cast flange on the rear axle housing (same one used on Orchard tractors), I have one on my 660. The hood was changed at serial number 116 360 with the added hole for the power steering pump. Without PS there was a 2" plug installed.

I have a late model 770 that does not have PS but has a hole like yours. the hole has a metal plug in it. WB.
