I have the chance to buy a 1650 diesel. Only problem it has antifreeze in oil. He put a new head gasket in it an didnt help, so my thought is sleeve seal? Its wide front an pretty strait. If I buy an fix will resale again. are they know for anti in oil? Rubber is fair. He wants $1000.for it. DOUG

If all else fails, there's a 1650 with good gas engine in a boneyard in western Washington- engine could be had for about 500 bucks. Email me for particulars if you're interested.

I agree the o rings on the sleeves need replaced. Maybe more work also. In Ohio the price seems to be 4500 to 6000 depending on condition. So at 1000 + 2000 engine work = 3000 then you should be able to turn a decent profit for your time and effort. The 1650 is a very good, strong running, reliable tractor.

Doug - I would have to agree with EB. I have been seeking an 1850 or a 1650 for my efforts in FL but the "other" green is more prevalent.

also do not use oil on orings. look down a few postings for sleeves. It talks about how to install.

Based on the tractors that I have been buying and repowering with cummins engines that is a fair price for a 1650 with a busted engine. I just recently bought a 1655 with a blown engine that was all apart for $1,000 with half rubber. The radiator was clogged up in the one I bought and most likely the engine got too hot and blew. The rest of the tractor minus the engine is most likely worth the $1,000. Just my 2 cents.

Based on my prior experience with a 1855 diesel and a friend's experience with a 1650 diesel , your problem is that the rubber rings on piston sleeves need to be replaced . I purchased an 1855 diesel where the prior owner left it plugged up to a block water heater which cooked the rings and allowed antifreeze to leak into the oil . If you took out the oil drain plug on the oil pan and drained a little oil into a clear jar , most of the "oil" was antifreeze (green) . I got to the problem before it really did any damage to the engine so it was a simple matter of replacing the rings on the piston sleeves with the block still in the tractor .

A friend had a 1650 with the same problem but he did not know about it at the time he bought the tractor . When he put the tractor under load , the engine oil got hot , the oil with the water in it broke down and the engine failed . He had to rebuild the entire engine . If you decide to buy this tractor , I would try to drain the oil , take off the oil pan and look at the inside of the engine before offering a price (you can at least look at the crank , the bushings , and bottom of the pistons etc with the oil pan off ) or try to reach a deal that , if the engine is bad , you are going to get some money back .
