Installing Sleeves

When installing sleeves in a 66 should they go in by hand or do they need a little tap? What type of grease or ? do you use on the o-rings since the white lead paste my old manual talks about is likely not available.

The sleeves should go in fairly easy by hand if everything is good and clean. Lube the "o" rings either with siliclone paste or dish soap-do not use motor oil or grease. Make very sure everything is clean ecpecially the counter bore- install the sleaves first without the "o" ring in the block and check the sleeve protrusion. This is a often overlooked pocess, but it is critical to get a head gasket to seal. I'd have to look to be sure but I think the spec is .001" to .004" and they shouldn't be more than .002" different from each other. Good luck!

Good advice Travis! The folks over at the old power seal co. always recommended mild dish soap. Grease is a no-no.
