According to the serial number our 880 is a 1958. Then I read in a book that 1963 was the only year they had only 6 forward gears and 2 reverse. Well ours only has 6 forward and 2 reverse so I don't know if it is a 58 or a 63. I would appreciate any help.

Believe your serial number.

The power booster is a 2-speed with an overrunning sprag. This effectively gave 12 forward and 4 reverse, with on-the-go shifting from low to direct.

The very late 880's MAY have had 3 point (I know the late 770's had it as an option).

You have a 58.The 6 by 2 transmission was used on all of them. Some had the 2 speed shift on the go tourque amplifier added between the engine and trans.

Larry, thanks for the information. So was the shift on the go added after production or did some of them come out with it?

Hey Red,...

The "Shift on the Go" was just a T/A that Oliver had and was a factory option.
