Can anyone tell me how the hydraulics work on
a oliver 88 starting from the switch on the dash?
thanks for any help!!!

Depending on the year of tractor and/or if someone has changed it from original, it could be Version I, II, or III. If it is version II, it�s a 6V, positive ground system. Battery (-) to 30A fuse to switch on dash to hand switch(s) to solenoid in hydraulic box (wiring to the relays and the cylinders are also involved). Korves sells a harness if yours has been cut or removed and you want to replace it. �Hydra-lectric service instructions� booklet (has the info you asked for) is available from Metzger�s in Ohio and possibly from HPOCA.

If you don�t care about the electrical portion and simply want to operate a cylinder, go the manual route as Scott has suggested. If you are having problems with the electric function and want it to work again, remove the box lid and hook a 6V dry cell to a solenoid to see if it will move the spool as a starting point.

The switch on stearing colum activates the salinoids in the hydraulic reservor. The salinoids move the hydraulic spools back and forth , changing which line the fluid is sent to. On the sides of the reservor , near the bottom , you will see little round nubbs sticking out the sides. Those nubbs are for manually activating the hydraulics.

There is a hydralic unit for sale in the photo ads if anyone is interested. He says it is for a late 1951 Oliver 88. Probably a series II.
