Oliver 70 help needed!!!!!!

I rebuilt a 70 engine for a guy,now it just runs on the middle 2 cylinders,there is 145 lbs.of compression in each cyl.,the valves are all set at .011,the timing marks are all lined up,and the gears are shimmed right.So what is going on???Could the new cam be from a 77??w/different firing order?All wires have good spark.What am I missing?????thanx in advance.

Howdy,....

Sounds like the wires are on the wrong terminals on the distributor,... (IE: Wrong rotation)

If only the 2 center cylinders are firing (#3 and #4) then it sounds like you have the wires on backwards for the wrong rotation of the distributor.

Leave the 2 wires on that are firing the 2 cylinders and change the other wire positions on the cap. I believe the firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4

So that's why only the 2 center cylinders are firing. Give it a try. Let us know !

This is only a guess. Are the timing gears lined up properly? Is your distributor 180 degrees off? Are the spark plug wires in the right places? 153624 is the firing order.

The gears are right,the firing order is right and so is the dist.everything looks good as gold!but it still don't run on morethan 2 cyl.

How about the carberator? Is the high speed needle (on bottom of carb)turned in or out more than it should be. I actually had that happen one time. I was pulling a load of hay up a steep road. For some reason , the tractor lost all power. It barely ran. Only on a couple cylinders as you describe. I was stranded along the road side. For the heck of it , I played with the high speed needle. I had gotten power back , and continued on. Another thing would be: Are both clips on the distibutor cap snapped on? Had this happen also. I was drawing firewood. Tractor ran on about two cylinders. It took a while. And I don't remember how I discovered it. On the back side of the distributor , the clipp popped off the distrbutor cap. Clipped it back on and continued. All we can do is keep trouble shooting. What else do you have?

I figured it out!!!!I was watching the rocker arms as i spun it over,THE FLIPPIN CAM WAS GROUND WRONG!!!!! !!on # 2+5,the lobes were ground backwards!!the intake would open when the exhaust should!Isky cams ground it,sure wasted alot of hours on somebodys mistake!thanx for your suggestions though!!really appreciated it.
