2-155 Clutch

We have to replace the clutch in our 2-155 White, and we've been told that there's a few different ones made for this tractor. Some are heavier, thicker, etc. Others have said put in a clutch disc/plate from a 2-180 driveline because it's heavier to withstand more abuse and will bolt right up. Is any of this true?? What should we do, basically we want the heaviest/strongest possible clutch setup for the tractor. The hi-inter-low drive box was replaced recently so it is good, and the transmission is fine too. Engine is a Hercules. Thanks
Darren

I worked as a parts man for a White dealer at one time. The only clutches we put in were new/remanufactured one that were called for. Most 2-155's left our shop @ 170-180 hp and we never had any premature clutch problems. The 2-180 has a 3208 Cat motor, different flywheel, bellhousing etc. It uses a double plate clutch and pressure plate that is completely different. I never heard of anyone putting one in a 2-135 or 2-155. I am not saying it can't be done but they are 2 different animals.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of that myself that how a 3208 clutch system would fit a Herc setup. I'll stick to OEM parts. Sounds like you're familiar with these tractors, and you say most of them left the shop @ 170-180 hp, was that because you turned them up or because that was factory? I've heard a lot of tractors are higher than they're rated at, and was wondering what mine would be even though it is rated at 155? It's never been touched or never dynoed. What do you think? Or is it a bogus question. Thanks

We have a 2-150 that we put the double disc setup out of a 2-180 in. All we had to do was get the flywheel redrilled and a shorter throwout bearing holder. The double disc setup could probably put in the 2-155 if you can't hold the power. On our 2-150 we were constantly slipping the clutch at 225 Hp. I think the same clutch that was in the 2-150 is in the 2-155. It iterchanges with a lot of different models.
