1855 hydraulic problem again!

We use our Olivers to run irrigation pumps with the engine speed pto. Unfortunately, the 1855's and 2255's tend to have the hydraulic line that goes around the back break and leak. It happened on one of our 1855's yesterday. The tractor was unattended at the time, so all the oil was blown out and the system was dry. In the past, we would just replace this line and it would start up just fine. On this tractor though, I do not have any hydraulic pressure to lift the 3 point or steer the tractor. It seems to work for only a few seconds and then disengages or disappears. It also would work for a few seconds when I brought the tractor rpm down. You can hear the hydraulics working and then it stops. I check the oil level and tried operating it at different levels without any luck. Do I have an open compensator valve or another valve stuck open? Or am I looking at something worse?
Thanks in advance. We do have oil pumping through the system and the pto will acually engage and run the irrigation pump, even without steering.
