283 engine will it fit?

Will the 283 Waukasha out of a 1655 or 1800 Oliver drop right in an "88"? Or what are other options to get around 80 h.p. Any suggestions would be helpful I'm starting to buy my stuff for this winter's restoration, last years was a green one but this year I've decided to go with a different shade of green.

Thanks for the input guys, now what price should I be looking to pay for a motor like the 310 and will I be able to find one without buying the whole tractor. Or will it be cheaper to buy one thats in pretty bad shape and then sell it for parts?

The 283 should bolt right in. A 310 will also. The bolt patterns are the same. With Oliver tractors, they have basically the same waukesha 6cyl. block all the way from the 77 to the 1955. Each one is just a little different with the bore, stroke and fuel setting. If you really want you could put a turboed 310 out of a 1955 in the 88 and run 140Hp easily. I would probably just drop a 310 in it. We have a Super 88 diesel running about 140Hp with the 310. It has right around 350 cubes with a little longer stroke.

Actually the 77, Super 77, 770, 1550 block is shorter than the 88, Super 88, 880, 1600, 1650, 1655, etc. blocks. That being asid it is a pretty easy swap to drop in a 265/283/310 into a 77, etc. series tractor. Most people can't tell the difference.
