1800 Hydra power

Well, I finally got the engine and hydra power unit sitting in the garage. I think the sealing rings are gone on the oil distributor to the clutches. Everything else looks ok. Is there an overhaul kit available for thes early units? Thanks for your help.

The kit is available, and it covers a wide range of hydrapowers. There will be some pieces in the kit that you won't use. Like when we did our 1850, I know we used o-rings and not gasket because of the version of hydrapower we had. ALSO!!!! Take note!!! It might me expensive, but replace the sprag clutch too!!! If you need a source for the parts, call Maibach Tractor at 1-800-808-9934. They stock 99% of the parts.

Yes, a complete kit is available with all the sealing rings, o-rings, and gaskets you'll need for a complete overhaul. The clutch disks are purchased separately if you need them. There is also an update for the plumbing of the oil collector ring that involves an external rubber line carrying exhaust oil to sump. This is on the right side of unit behind filter base. You may already have this update, but if not, you should put it on as it will prevent possible leaks in the future.

I have that update oil line. Thanks. I also found the sealing kit in Ross North Dakota from a little dealer there who is the only business in town besides the Post office, but he had it in stock and is going to mail it to me. I don't think I have a Sprague clutch. How do I tell?

Been to Ross, ND. One of those dealers who still has invaluable Oliver expertise. The sprag clutch is used in all the Oliver Hydra-Powers and Over/Unders and is the component responsible for the inherent smooth downshift into Under or Hydra-Power Drive and for the ability of the unit to overrun and essentially coast in the low range, a very nice feature if one knows how to use it. One ought not to install the sprag clutch backwards or the unit will not function as intended. During the teardown, at least look this overrunning sprag clutch over. It looks like an exposed roller bearing but will "bind" or "lock up" in one direction and overrun in the other. Again, make sure you install it in the same orientation as it was removed.

Thanks, WFE. I found out yesterday where the sprag clutch is. It seems ok. I have to get new needle bearings for the counter shaft though. They fell apart when I pulled the shaft out. Of course race is still in there, and don't want to come out. I suppose this will be a smoke wrench job. It is really a simple little transmission once it is all apart, but a lot of work to get to this point. Thanks to everybody for the help.
