One of my 1850's has developed a more or less constant pull to the right. The problem appears to be hydraulic in nature and I suspect the hydramotor unit is bypassing somewhere but I guess it could also be the power steering clyinder. Does any one know a way to check which unit is bad before I start changing parts?

This is a common problem with the saginaw steering units. To test jack up the front end and with the engine off pull on the front wheels. If the cylinder is bad they will turn easy.Other than the center seal leaking I have not had any bad cylinders on olivers.I have had the steering valves go bad 4 times.I have given up repairing the old units and replace them with charlin steering valves. They steer better and none have gone bad and you can get parts.

You used to be able to buy a change over kit from oliver. It was $1500 20 years ago.I have been buying the stering valves either new or used and makeing what I need.First you need the piece that holds the valve,if you have a newer tractor with one on its easy to copy. You can buy a new steering coloum or change the old parts to make them fit. Then all you need are 4 new hydrolic hoses. The series 1 charlin valves are easyer to work with and get steering coloms for.The last one I made the coloum out of exasht pipe and used the oliver parts inside it.Have you checked out looseness in the front axel the solve your wandering?

Yea Larry I have, unfortunatly. If field/road leans to left, then I continusly have to steer to the right to maintain straight, works same both ways. Have a narrow front and just had bearings/seals replaced in it. Steering also seems to slip if trying to turn fast. Thanks.

After thinking about what I wrote above,I should add it might not be so easy if you don't have all the tools to do it and other tractors around to copy from.
