2-70 repower

The old waukeshau just puked a rod out of the side of the block ,so I am looking at repower options .Im not about to spend any more money on this just so it can happen again someday!In checking with Cummins Npower,I was quoted $6900 for a3.9 4cylinder and $9200 for a 5.9 6cylinder kit.3.9=80hp. 5.9 =120hp.(Non turbo 5.9 is no longer available thanks to the EPA).When checking the archives,some problems where noted about the weight distribution was not right after the 4cyl. conversion .I would think about 300 lbs. of ballast on the front would correct this as Im not using it for heavy tillage ,just choring and haying.I think the 3.9 would be the way to go,as the 5.9 would overkill on the power and a lot more money.Any comments-suggestions?

Charlie, I run a repair shop here and I do repowers on a fairly regular basis, and these prices are way out of line. I'd love to put together a price quote for you.
I understand your concern about the extra weight of the 6 cylinder motor, but I know from experience you will not be satisfied with the 4 cylinder, for a few reasons. If you'd like to talk more, e mail me and I can get you my number to call.

Charlie I was just wondering how many hours were
on the old waukesha when it slung the rod? Was it
under a load and high rpm? The reason i ask is i
have an old 1650 with the same engine and i think
it is one of the best engines in the world and haven't
had any problems. Of course i don't work it very hard anymore either.

I have a 3.4 Onan/cummins that is close to 100hp non turbo it will bolt into the 2-70 tub pretty easily. It is used, appears to be in good condition. Have access to three more if anyone else is interested. Price is 1500 complete fan to flywheel.
