A FRIEND OF MINE AND I HAVE FOUND A OLIVER 55, SER.23421 518(OR)3, SPEC 0005. IT IS IN FAIR CONDITION, ASSORTED OIL AND FLUID LEAKS, DECENT TIRES. SOME SHEET METAL MISSING. HE IS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO RESTORE ALONG THIS SIZE TRACTOR. asking price is 4500$. can anyone tell me year of manufacture, and if the price is near right or not?

Unless those are Canadian funds, $4500 is WAY too steep for the tractor you describe. I'd expect to pay $4500 for a restored tractor. I bought my 57 Super 55 in 2000, payed $2900 for it with a brand new bushhog attached. It's needed some work, but it was functional as is. If your friend is looking to restore, he'll probably spend $2000 or more to do it, so he'll be losing money by starting at 4500. Saw a real nice early Super 55 diesel w/Oliver loader, and options like remote hydraulics, swinging drawbar go for $2400 at an auction. It needed nothing but paint.
Either chew the guy down to $2000 or walk away.

It's a 1955. You can go to the link below for serial number years.Wow, that sounds a bit steep to me. You won't find the sheet metal cheap, but you will find it hard to get. Mechanically, is it sound? I'm restoring one and mine sounds like the one you are looking at, except I have all the seet metal, but my tires are poor. I paid $2,600 Canadian, about $1,700 or $1,800 US. I had to know more about it to make a true comparison though. For $4,500 it should be in really good shape. My 2�, I'm sure you will get other responses.
