I have an Oliver 77 RC that runs good and shifts ok in high range only. The shift lever won't move into the low range. Can someone tell me where to look to get it to shift in low range.

Thanks Guys. I got it in a trade and like it, but won't get a change to work on it until later this summer. Then I will appreciate your info and will let you know what I find.

Owen,I just put together my pulling tractor,The owner had removed the shifter and lost the two springs that hold the shifter up. he replaced it with a piece of rubber.When I put in the new springs,I missed putting the little ball on the bottom of the shifter into the right place in the gate.All I had was the high gear range.Have you always had this problem? And is it a new tractor?If it is someone my have the shift not position right. Before you pull the shifter out,Make a plate shaped like a "U" of thin sheet metal,Slide it under the shifter before you lift it up to keep from losing the spring into trans.A service manual decribes how to make it.Good luck,e-mail me if you have more questions,Dan

Hi Owen--
It sounds like you have a worn poppett block. It is worn so the detent ball gets wedged as it is pushed into the block. You can replace the block or grind a little off of the center shift rail where it starts to push the ball up into the block.

Mike, I have the same problem. Although I still can get it in low and high range with just the right touch. How do you pull the rod or block?

The block he is talking about is on the front of the trans. case. If you have a belt pulley assembly you have to take off otherwise it's behind a round cover on the right front side of trans. You will probally have to take the hyd unit or mech. lift off to get to the shift rails to remove the block
