Hi Folks- Yesterday I went for a little drive and looked at a 880. It said in the paper "880 diesel, runs poor" I am looking for an engine project as it is, but it seems like this tractor has more problems then the engine. Besides the engine about ready to die, the 2 speed is shot, a massive oil leak from the hydraulic reservoir, PTO stuck on, and the rear rims are so rusty, they will have to be replaced soon. The hood is nice, as is the grille, but the side panels are missing. Fenders are ok too. So basically its a narrow fronted tractor(good narrow) with a good tranny and brakes with a hood and grille. Should I just keep clear of this tractor??? It dont help I am short of money as it is! Well anywho, anyone with thoughts, post your thoughts, I'd appreciate it very much!

"Short on money" and "diesel" don't go together well. From what I've read, the first live ptos are not hard to fix if the clutch is where the trouble is. All of the pto clutch is in back if I'm not mistaken. Lind Implement in Colfax must be cleaning out their south yard and moving everything out to the north yard next to the freeway. I've yet to count, but theres easily 40 tractors, all Oliver, and mostly 70's and 60's theres a few newer Olivers thrown in for good measure. LOTS of other stuff lined up too.

It would depend on how much money is involved. It sounds like $500 would be almost too much considering all the problems. If you can fix the problems you will have a fairly decent tractor when you are finished. It would make a great tractor when repaired if it were a gas model.
