I went to auction to buy a Oliver 1755 diesel... And there were 2 of them there. The one I had looked at had a cab, but was rough. They just put a clutch in it the night before and didn't have it running for the auction, but it still sold for $2800 anyway. Ouch !!!

The second 1755 diesel didn't have a cab, and it looked better shape, but had a knock. That one pulled $4000 just on it's looks. Lot more than I thought either was worth.

But I stuck around and picked up a few things, then came to this International with cab. 1566 Diesel with all the extras. 4100 hours, but the engine was torn apart. So I looked it over, then decided it may be a good deal if I get it right.

So,... Now I have it home and it's no where as bad as I thought, and guess it will turn into a great deal afterall (Considering the color of the paint) But should have it running in a Month or so as time allots.

But I feel a little guilty, being an Oliver guy, and now buying a IH..... (Some One Kick Me !!!)

Besides,.. I have a good excuse !! I'm partially Color Blind (Really !!!)

Their web page doesn't say anything about a Tractor Pull of any kind.

I was told they spent all their $$$ for getting the concert singer booked.

Don't feel bad. I went to an auction looking for an IH with a loader (I have 4 Farmalls), and ended up coming home with an 770. I couldn't beat the price and it runs great! My wife still laughs her a** off when she sees the Ollie sitting in the shed with the Farmalls!

Well,.. This deal gets better all the time. I just pulled 1 main and 1 rod bearing and they look pretty good. I will replace them anyway, but the crank looks good.

Rods are .010 and the Mains are .030,... But thats OK if all the journals look as good as these 2 do.

I'm debating if to pull the engine or do a In-Frame rebuild. Hope the sleeves are sealed good in the lower end, and I was also told that the Cam may be flat causing it to overheat!

But I will know more in a few days as I play with it a little at a time.

If you are doing this much, you might as well go all the way and tear it all the way down. Just my opinion, but I've been told I am a perfectionist.

Guess that is the best way. That way I will know what I have when done.

Thanks.

Was at an auction with a fella once, and we watched a parade of "rice-burners" and 16 HP toys go for $5,000 plus- then came a 1566, with poor paint, but evidence of excellent care, and ran like the proverbial watch- My friend got it for $2,700, and commented, "Its nice to have a rig that could outpull about $30,000 worth of these little pi**-ant tractors, all at once!"

well paint you house red and move to the farmall board, we welcome anybody. a good deal is a good deal no matter the color. sides you don't HAVE to paint it red. I read of one owner who painted everything Green and yellow cause all the neighbors were John Deere fans and he didn't want to start a feud

Now that's an idea,.... Paint it Green !!! with Clover White wheels and Cab,....

Would really turn some heads,.... But I think the tractor would have an identity crisis,...

Come on Cowboy. You're among friends here. How much? Half the fun of an auction bargain is bragging about it.

Well,... Looks like it will turn out to be a heck of a deal afterall,... Don't want to let folks know what I actually paid for it. But my only problem is that I keep hanging on to my deals and don't like to sell stuff when it is done.

Makes me happy, but really aggrivates my wife to no end. She actually hates me going to auctions except when I sell something afterward and have a bunch of extra $$$$$$.

Anyway, really wish it was a Oliver,..... Bought a Mack R-7000 Wheeler Dump with a 14 yd body too for $250.00,... Yep,.. $250,.... No Kiddin ! So, Imagine the deal on the 1566 I got !!!

Fella asked me if I felt guilty,....?? NOPE !! Not at all !!!

If it is your income, why should your wife care. My wife doesn't tell me how to spend mine and I don't tell her how to spend hers.

Anyway, like what was said before, it is nice to own a few other brands of tractors. If it is dependable and runs good, who cares what brand it is. As long as it isn't a Deere. (lol)

Well,.. I think I have owned almost every brand,.. except a Ford, or Cockshutt so far.

Just a ball park figure,.. I have owned over 100 the past 12 years,... But I am stupid,...

I sell them to get another. Then I fix another and sell that one.

The one I sold that I am very sorry was a Oliver 770 with a loader. Still wish I had the old girl.

Sounds like you created an opertunity to make some money, and that is what auctions are all about. I never got a bargain yet looking for a particular item. Bargains are in the unexpected class. The money you make will all be same color.

Sounds like you got a good deal then, if your happy thats what matters. Besides its more fun to own several colors and play with them all. I have 3 molines, 1 massy, 1 IH, and now 5 Ollies, and I like them all for different reasons, and better yet all of them work and earn their keep. You should like that big 1566, those were real workhorses. Have fun.
