Hydra-Power Drive rear seal

I got the 1800 running this week. One stuck injector and pump rebuild later. Now the seal on the hydra power is leaking severely. Can I get the tail off the unit by pulling the pto shaft so I can replace the seal? Or do I have to pull the engine and Hydra Power unit first?

I agree with Shep . You are going to have to pull the engine and hydra drive unit . Shep has good idea to really check the unit out while you have it out and disassembled from the engine and bell housing . While you have unit out , I would suggest you consider replacing the front and rear seals on the hydradrive , the o ring around the front cover and the small o ring around the plunger going into the hydradrive (on right side of unit viewed from drivers seat ) that shifts the hydradrive from direct to indirect and back . Last winter I pulled engine on a 1967 model year oliver 1850 with hydradrive to replace rear engine seal . While I had everything out I replaced rear seal on hydradrive and o-ring on plunger but not seal in front of hydradrive because it was difficult to get to since you had to open unit up and the seal had not been leaking at all . . Now the front seal on the hydradrive is leaking bad just when I need the tractor and I have to pull engine again because you cannot get to the seal any other way . Don't make same mistake I made . Also while you have engine and hydradrive unit out you may want to check clutch plate , pressure plate , throw out bearing and rear engine seal to see how they look because to get to any of these on Oliver with hydrapower or over/under shifter , you have to take engine out .

If I were you, I would get the seal kit and the plates from AGCO and rebuild it. Another thing, if you do rebuild it, replace the sprag clutch too. It is over $200, but like Shep said, you don't want to take that motor out a lot. There is also a seat in there that gets bad, but ask your AGCO dealer about it, I don't want to get into that.

Sorry to tell you, but you are going to have to pull the PTO shaft out and pull the engine and Hydra power out togeather and replace the seal. I would have your agco dealer go ahead and go through the unit and check the pressures and plates out while you have it down, you dont want to be doing this a bunch. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I will start pulling the engine after haying time. Need to spend a couple of weeks sitting on the swather right now. It's not my favorite chair, but it has to be done.
