Busted PTO Oliver S55

I just got done rototilling tonight. However, I pulled the PTO lever forward and it went way forward. I tried to re-engage the PTO but it no longer goes. Anyone have any thoughts.

That adjustment should be 32# - measured 2' above the pivot point of the lever!

Take the inspection cover off the bottom and watch the function, you might have had the adjustment loose causing wear or burnt the discs. If the toggle assy moves try to tighten the adjustment nut clockwise till it takes 35# to engage the PTO. The grease fitting on the right side should be greased every 5 hrs of use.

Sounds as if your brass shift collar assembly has just worn out and now broken letting the lever flop as it wouldn't be hooked to anything - you will have to do a split as there is no repairs that can be made as is! Good luck!

I to have had this problem. I have two super 55's and they are great tractors. My newer 55 the one I have that has auxilary hydraulics and a new motor had this happen to me three years ago. The problem was the assembly that tightens and engages the pto blew apart. I got it fixed and it blew apart again ayear later.You will definately have to split the tractor to find the exact problem, be careful making sure that nothing is wore out somewhere else causing extra stress at the pto, as that was my problem which I found out the hard way. good luck BJW
